Management microsoft point retail sale

Of course all sales literature from everyone says theirs will do everything the caveat, yes, it does but you have to do it this way This approach from MS seems to do a lot for resellers the good ones anyway I was a ComputerLand franchise in the early 80's, back when you could get cpm86 or ucsd for your ibm pc I just happened on this thread searching for info on Microsoft's RMS system.

I've had a hard time finding developer info on the product so far, so I'm really hoping someone can help me out here. OK, here it goes I was wondering two things: First, does anyone know if there is a way to customize the "item properties" form? For example, I need to store vendor information as well as supplier information for items. Right now, there is only a tab for supplier information, but no vendor info tab. Second, is there an available event to attach to when barcodes are scanned and read by the POS system?

Thanks in advance for any help!! Interesting post cwivy - "This approach from MS seems to do a lot for resellers the good ones anyway " - scary though, there are lots of bad ones right now and it seems like only more to come.

Many just out to make a quick buck, an MS is recruiting more. IMO, its the worst thing you can do during a product introduction as resellers are really the face of the product. Buyers beware - the product is great but make sure the people you buy from know what their doing. Hopefully this product is going to be more customizable in the next releases. Check out information on barcode scanner programming, you can do some wild things with them.

I've had a hard time finding developer info on the product so far - join the crowd, IMO MBS has done a terrible job managing the partner channel. Props to their marketing staff though, now if MS would only tell us how to make it do all the wonderful thing the literature says it can :. Hi Rick How is your project going??? I have repeatedly asked for actual businesses using the RMS program.

MS said that they would, that was last week. I totally understand the profit structure and don't expect to get the software for nothing.

A great thread! I'd really like to hear how businesses, that have been running on it for some time, are liking the funcionality. I did, however, find a company by chance this past week. I was in Maui my wife -made- me go and stopped into a retail shop. The folks were scratching their heads and pacing around - so, being inquisitive on tech issues, I popped my head over the counter and asked.

They were going thru install woes, big time, but They gave me a brief tour and I really liked what I saw. I only wish I could get better info on what type of companies this product targets. In fact, I wish there was more detailed info available. Microsoft only gives us limited sneak peaks. Maybe this is only until we become resellers??? If so, I can see why so many folks are resellers that shouldn't be. I think thats a good thing, but they're not making the option efficient.

Let me know if I'm off my rocker here tho! If there is better, more detailed, info available, I'd like to take a look. I got a call from MS to follow up on my inquiry. I was very blunt with them, told them what I wanted I have look at CAM32 in some detail last week and talked with a couple of geeks that use it in their retail stores in the east. I must admit I am going to give CAM32 a reprieve. Thier old stuff did work and the ms-dos transition was a bit disappointing.

I may be able to use my credit card sales to negotiate with since they have their own processing company I am moving to my "flagship store" in January so I am rather tight for time before next August Hi Rick, thanks a lot for the info. But I agree, as always their marketing is top-notch Anyway, I've been a little more successful piecing together info from what little I could find both online and using the object browser shipped with. Unfortunately I'm still finding it quite difficult to achieve what I think should be simple tasks.

Specifically, can anyone advise me as to how to get a pointer to items entered within a particular transaction? I've added a hook reference to a dll I created I attached to the supplied "AddItem" hook , and can't figure how to navigate to the Item entry details from the session object that is passed to it. It seems like this should be straightforward, but for the life of me I can't figure it out. Am I missing something obvious here? Give you some heads up on CAM retail star and their products in general.

If you want to do any database work, the software is really crap. We literally had to run text reports from retail star under manual control autmatic reprot generator crashes generatign csv files , and use MS sql data transform service to import the data into sql FYI, Gupta does not run on multiple processors, and you have no control over which process to force it to run on. Also, CAM does not give you write access to the database.

CAM also determines when you should upgrade. The upgrades are free, but usually arrive 6 — 10 months after every one else has them. The support staff is more of a function to how you buy the product. It is no fun to reboot a bunch of POS workstations during peak business hours due to a crash database. So if you are content to live in the CAM world, you will do fine, if you want to do anything out side of the CAM world like use a wireless inventory control systems, process the database for the web data real time; you will have problems.

We looked at two other packages before selecting CAM's product. We selected CAM;'s product, with the feelings at the time that if they did not significanly fix the db by the time it was on our critical automation path, we would dump it fr somethin else. We will try a conversion to RMS in jan - feb time frame and see how that compares. The gupta db crashes pretty hard at times. Usually when I am a - miles away. We integrate the products Microsoft Store Operations and Headquarters with Dynamics and have written many custom apps and have a reporting system setup for corporate and stores.

We have over 50 inline stores that use RMS and sych with HQ on a daily basis, giving us the real time data to make informed decisions.

We are one of the largest users and developers for of RMS and Microsoft has even come to visit us to discuss the product and see what we were implementing.

If any of you need advice on the purchase, implementation, or customization of quicksell, just let me know. Requries a sql db. Looking for beta sites. Sort of a real time db update, price change inventory adjustment from a pda. Prices are really tba until the markeitng folks bless it. If you are interested in a beta site, contact me off line at mkatzer kamind. We should have the site up in march alogn with beta product and are lookign for a couple of beta users. The category price rules feature in Commerce gives you an easy way to create new trade agreements for all the products in a category.

This feature also lets you automatically find existing trade agreements for the products in the category and expire them. When you select the option to expire existing trade agreements, the system creates a new trade agreement journal for the products in the category that have an active trade agreement.

However, the journal must be manually posted. Additionally, the category price rules can find existing trade agreements only if you're using the same price rule that is, if you create a new price rule that uses the same category that was before.

If you aren't using the same price rule, the existing trade agreements won't be expired. The prices can be increased or decreased by using the Price rule and Price basis fields of the category price rules. To easily update the prices of various products from different product categories, you can use the supplemental product categories together with the category price rules.

This consideration applies not only to pricing but also to other areas of the product. Here are a few best practices that can help you reduce the size of your data:. If you're using trade agreements, and your prices change, you should expire the old trade agreements by setting an end date.

Over time, this approach helps reduce the number of trade agreements that are kept in channel databases. It also helps reduce the amount of data that the price calculation algorithm must work with.

If your prices vary by product variant, consider using the product base price as the price of the most common variant. Then use trade agreements only for the variant prices that are exceptions.

This approach helps reduce the number of trade agreement records. Because it's so easy to import data into Microsoft Dynamics , you might be tempted to import a trade agreement for every variant of every product. However, that approach can produce many trade agreements that have the same value. Therefore, it can needlessly increase the size of your data. Commerce processes variant-specific prices in order from most specific to least specific.

If a product dimension doesn't affect the price, you don't have to define trade agreements for it. For example, a product is available in three colors and four sizes, but the price varies only by size. If you define a trade agreement for every variant, you create 12 records. Instead, you can define a trade agreement just for each size and leave the Color dimension blank.

In this case, you produce only four records. Alternatively, if not every value of a dimension produces a different price, you can define one trade agreement for the product master and leave all product dimensions blank. Then define a separate trade agreement just for each dimension value that produces a different price.

For example, if the XXL size has a higher price, but all other sizes have the same price, you require only two trade agreements: one for the product master and one for the XXL size. When you set sales prices in Dynamics , you don't specify whether the price value that you're setting includes or excludes tax. The value is just the price.

However, the Price includes sales tax setting on channels lets you configure channels so that they either include or exclude tax from prices. This setting is set on the channel and can change even in a single company. If you work with both inclusive and exclusive types of tax, it's very important that you set prices correctly, because the total amount that the customer pays will change if the Price includes sales tax setting on the channel is changed.

A single pricing engine is used to calculate prices across all channels: call center, retail store, and online stores. This helps in enabling the unified Commerce scenarios. Pricing is designed to work with Commerce entities instead of non-Commerce entities. Specifically, it's designed to set prices by store, not by warehouse.

In addition, only the Commerce pricing engine supports the following pricing features:. Price is one of the most important factors that controls the buying decisions of many customers, and many customers compare prices on various sites before they make a purchase. To help ensure that they provide competitive prices, retailers carefully watch their competitors and often run promotions. To help these retailers attract customers, it's very important that product search, the browse feature, lists, and the product details page show the most accurate prices.

The GetActivePrices application programming interface API in Commerce returns prices that include simple discounts for example, single-line discounts that don't depend on other items in the cart. In this way, the prices that are shown are close to the actual amount that customers will pay for items. This API includes all the types of simple discounts: affiliation-based, loyalty-based, catalog-based, and channel-based discounts.

Additionally, the API returns the names and validity information for the applied discounts, so that retailers can provide a more detailed description of the price and create a sense of urgency if the discount's validity will expire soon. Inventory management to ensure optimal stock levels is included along with integration to Quickbooks for financial management. There is also an online Webstore to handle e- commerce transactions. Microsoft RMS on the other hand is provided with two modules with one to handle the store and the other to handle headquarters in a multi-store retail operation.

The product supports a full Point of Sale system with inventory management, pricing, and sales. Additionally it is part of the Microsoft enterprise platform so can be integrated seamlessly with Microsoft Dynamics GP. Vend in comparison handles product management with an integrated price book which is updated in real time for point of sale operations. Additionally the product supports on-account sales which involve deferred payments on a time based billing cycle.

There is also a loyalty program to reward frequent shoppers with an online portal for tracking transactions and redemption offers, and an application library to enhance product functionality.

What is the cost of Microsoft Dynamics Retail? On top of the total cost of licenses which is easy to calculate - what is the REAL total cost of implementation? You need to add the cost of training, customization, data migration, and other "hidden cost".
